Summer Comes
There was a period in recent (relative to the whole of time) history called the “Little Ice Age” it peaked in the 1690’s with the lowest average temperatures in recorded history. There were records of it snowing in June in the New England colonies here in what would become the USA. But summer still came.
Prior to that the world went through what was known as the “Conveyer Warming” in which temperatures in Europe soared for a few centuries. France even had to enact laws to keep the booming English wine industry from bankrupting the French growers. The Vikings discovered Greenland, and it was actually green at the time. Summer came a lot during that period.
Life is always changing; even the seasons can be somewhat unpredictable. Now we have Global Warming… who knows what that will actually turn out to be like. Strangely enough during our Global Warming we have had record cold and snowy winters. Maybe our weather is mirroring the tumultuous times we live in.
Technology, culture, politics, world affairs….it’s all like a 33 1/3 record playing at 45rpms. Sadly if you even know what a 45 is, or know that record players had speeds, you are in a shrinking minority. Records gave way to tapes, tapes to CD’s, CD’s to digital downloads, and industry insiders think that digital downloads will one days soon give way to cloud based libraries. Change has become our only constant in the world today.
With all this change us humans can get pretty anxious and worried from time to time. But the writer of Psalm 102 realized that of all things, God does not change:
God does not change and neither does God’s love for us and our relationship to God is a rock that never shifts. So, as life changes, seasons change (strangely) and culture moves forward and backward remember, your God changes not, nor does his love end.

“ 25Of old You founded the earth, And the heavens are the work of Your hands. 26Even they will perish, but You endure; And all of them will wear out like a garment; Like clothing You will change them and they will be hanged. 27But You are the same, And Your years will not come to an end. 28The children of Your servants will continue, And their descendants will be established before You."
